Having a Birthday in August has to be one of the favourite months to celebrate such an occasion, beautiful weather and school holidays means that those who have a Birthday in this month can enjoy some quality family time with great surroundings.

The August Birth Flower is the beautiful Gladiolus, this flower is favoured for its attractive flowers which grow on tall spikes and are often found at the back of gardens or along garden borders. You’ll probably spot them on your travels too, I saw same along the countryside as I walked my dog. This made the walk much more enjoyable. We all love a good view! Especially as this flower has a large variety of colours and are pretty hard to miss as they can grow between 2 to 6 feet high. The Gladiolus is also known as the “Sword Lily”, this name was earnt through the shape of the leaves which have one-sided spikes and are funnel-shaped bright flowers.  Gladiolus represents calm, integrity and infatuation.

Another flower that represents August is the Poppy, commonly known as the Remembrance Poppy which is found in fields, the Poppy was one of the first wildflowers to colonise broken disturbed grounds after the First World War which was originally corn fields, this is why they are so cherished and are used in memory of those that fought in the war.

There are other colours of Poppy’s to be found that signify different meanings, for example, the white Poppy is given for consolation and the yellow poppy is to wish wealth and success for someone (or yourself).
